art of measuring movement toward or away from sustainability has been evolving,
particularly since the early 1980s. This section provides links to a number of

Compendium
of Sustainable Development Indicator Initiatives
The compendium, created by the International Institute for Sustainable
Development, provides a comprehensive information base of sustainable
development indicator initiatives. The compendium contains an annotated
bibliography of indicator-related literature and a collection of indicator
examples.

Sustainability Indexes – comparative rankings
Several organizations have developed indexes that seek to compare the
sustainability or the environmental performance of various countries.
Corporate sustainability and environment reporting
Companies have long communicated their performance through annual
reports, which usually deal with economic and organizational issues. Over the
past decade they have tried to
account publicy for their environmental performance and some have moved into
sustainability reporting.
